Hinton's Orchard

For the first field trip of preschool, we loaded up and went to Hinton's Orchard, an apple farm/pumpkin patch in Hodgenville. The first thing we did was huddle up for a hayride (it was really cold that morning!) A guy from the orchard told the kids all about growing apple and other fruit trees. This picture is of Jonah on the hayride.
The second stop was a corn maze. We went last year with Joyschool, and the corn was much higher then. I asked and they said that it just hadn't grown very tall this year. So, while it was still a maze, we never really got all that lost because we could totally see over the corn. It was probably a good thing, too, since the 4-yr-olds were the ones leading us through the maze! Here's Kate thinking she's just as cool as the preschool bunch.
Each kid got to pick their own pumpkin from the pumpkin patch. Jonah picked up about 3 or 4 before he finally found the perfect one. Kate also found one that was "just my size." Here's Jonah and Luke being silly with their prized pumpkins. (Side note...these boys are only 1 month apart in age!!! Jonah had better take some growing pills.)

This is Jonah with Miss Diana, his teacher. After the pumpkin patch we went into the store and they talked to the kids about sorting and processing the picked apples (I have no pictures because this was when Lincoln decided that he was hungry, go figure). They got to try some yummy apple cider--Jonah thought it was so good that he convinced me to buy some to take home. Then we went and played on the little playground and saw some baby cows.
They had an old tractor that everybody had a blast playing on. Doesn't Kate make a cute farmer? It was a great field trip and we look forward to many more this year.

That's cool that there's a place in Hodgenville so close! What a fun field trip. I want to talk to you more about Jonah's school- it's one that we are thinking about for Gracie for next year! I am totally sold on the Bernheim Colorfest- we are THERE next year!

Isn't this time of year AWESOME. The weather in Colorado is unbelievable. We always get snow on halloween and it is going to be in the mid 70s. Nuts. But, I am not complaining. It is soooo nice.
