Colorfest!

Autumn is my very favorite season: we get cooler temperatures, colorful leaves, and lots of fun fall activities! Just up the Highway is Bernheim Forest, a beautiful place to experience the beautiful colors of fall. This year I convinced Micah to go to Colorfest, a festival there that turned out to be super fun. They had everything from local artists to live music to a hayride. Jonah and Kate had a blast making lots of nature crafts and looking at the animals. The wackiest thing was a booth that featured several women (a couple of them a bit older) holding these animals: a tarantula, a giant millipede, a lizard, and a guinea pig. Jonah and I pet the guinea pig, but I wasn't going anywhere near the spider or the bug. We also saw snakes, turtles, and rescued birds, including a bald eagle.

Local artists had created many scarecrows that were displayed throughout the festival. This was one of our favorites.

This was an awesome display of hands-on instruments that the kids just LOVED. A local guy makes them all himself and he had some really creative ideas. It was a great place for the kids to hang out and let Mom and Dad rest a bit.
Here's Jonah petting the guinea pig. I don't have picture of the tarantula or millipede, but take my word for it; they were huge and nasty-looking.
Here's Lincoln chilling on the hayride. Personally, I don't think the leaves have been as pretty this year thanks to our fall drought/heat wave (which has finally passed...the heat wave, anyway). But it was still beautiful, and it's amzaing how many different kinds of trees they have there.

Nothing says fall like a good old hayride!

Speaking of hay, they also had a little hay-maze set up. Jonah, of course, figured it out in record time, and thankfully he took Kate along with him.
So that's a little look at Colorfest. We had a great time, and hopefully we'll be making it a fall family tradition.
