$2000 for a vacuum?
So yesterday this guy from Kirby knocked on my door offering to clean the carpet in one room in my house for free. I'm not stupid, I knew he was going to try and sell me a vacuum. But I thought, hey, let's go for it (my carpets all need a cleaning, why not get one for free). Of course, he said it would only take an hour, and two hours later I'm feeding the baby and he's still here, finally cleaning the carpet, and I'm really wanting this vacuum after seeing all the dirt that he found in my house. The thing is, the Kirby cost $2000, and there is no way in heck that I'm going to pay that for a vacuum, no matter how many amazing things it can do. It's funny to me though because a few months ago a few friends had nearly fallen for the Rainbow vacuum guy's pitch (well, one did and then returned it). This, too, is a super $2000 vacuum, and when they told me I couldn't believe that they'd even considered it and was kind of making fun of them. But now that I've seen the magic of the super vacuum I understand! Maybe one day I'll be rich and can afford something like that, but alas, I now have many other things I need to pay for first. I felt bad because the salesguy was new, and very nice, and didn't even pressure me that much so I think I had it easy. I just wish I could have helped him earn a little money for his time (sorry, Kirby guy--maybe you should try a new job!) And I wish I didn't know how much dirt my cruddy Hoover is NOT picking up every time I try to clean. I hear the Dyson is pretty good (and only $300) so maybe I'll put that on my Christmas wish list. Does this mean that I'm entering middle-age, when I'm asking for cleaning appliances for Christmas? My mother will be so proud.

oh, to have the kirby vacuum... my grandma has one and they are amazing... but we have the dyson and we love it to death... definitely a lot easier to push around!
my brother has a kirby and I love my rainbow way more. It can even suck up water.. how is that for a vaccum. Yes the price is very off the wall but I love it... we got ours well about 4 or 5 years ago and would never turn back to a regular vaccum... but the sales guys do want your money and if you really want one you can normally talk them down a bit (we did). But if you act like you never saw it you will never know what your vaccum doesn't get :)
Anyway- I am not sure if you remember me (family) but just noticed your blog on Joni's and had to check your family out.. I can't believe how much they have grown!
Shannon, we had the same thing happen--except we did purchase a kirby. But after a night's sleep and time to think about it, we returned it the next day. I just couldn't see spending that kind of money on a vacuum-EVER!
Hey, I am reading Twilight, and am LOVING IT. I can't get enough! I just wish I could read it all day--
Wow, I can think of a whole bunch of things that I would rather spend $2000 on like a maid to clean my entire house once a week. However, I have not witnessed the power of this "super" vacuum- it must truly be something!
that's so funny! a friend fell for it but loves the thing. she uses all the time!
I feel your pain. Someone came and cleaned my carpet once. I was amazed at what they sucked up. Particularly on our mattress. Oh- that was gross. If only it was reasonable.
Shannon-
Hey, I found another person I know. Your kids look so much older and a new one. I hope things are going well for you and it will be fun to keep up with you through the blogs.
this is so funny, andrew's mom still gets teased because she used to buy a vacuum from every sales guy that came around. i didn't know they still went door to door.
