Last Saturday was Festival Day! It was time for the local festival, complete with rides, a parade, and even fireworks. Because of baby Lincoln, we didn't try to brave free-ride night on Friday and instead waited until Saturday to enjoy the festivities. Lucky for us, the parade is very close to our house so we just walked down the street and found a good spot. The kids had fun sitting in their little chairs, catching candy and waving. Kate liked the "princesses" best (the local paegant queens), while Jonah said his favorite part was the guy dressed like the Sonic Hot Dog--mind you, the Hot Dog wasn't even part of the parade! It was kind of hot so Kate, Lincoln, and I left a little early. Both the kids ended up with plenty of candy and they had a great time.
What's a Kentucky parade without a tractor?
Here's our pint-sized Republican showing his support for Senator Mitch McConnell

Later that afternoon, my parents and Uncle Michael came down and we went to the festival at the park. We enjoyed looking at the booths, eating funnel cake, and getting some free stuff. The kids had fun on the ferris wheel, and then we headed to Chick-fil-A and enjoyed the air conditioning. After everyone had gone home and the kids had gone to bed, I watched some of the fireworks out our front window--it was a pretty good show! Next year we'll try and go when we can avoid the hot sun and enjoy the fireworks a little more close up.

Hey Shannon! Looks like you guys had fun at the Heartland festival. We didn't get to go because of the stomach bug--maybe next year!
I have to tell you--I am really excited about this election now! I really, really think McCain has a chance. He's up in the polls after the convention! Yay! See ya tomorrow!
I didn't even know about the festival until we got behind a tractor float on our way home after we were out running errands on Saturday. Man, we miss all the good stuff. Lincoln should really charge for his political advertising- I bet he can be quite influential with those cute cheeks and his manly grunts!!
Shannon,
Yeah I found a long lost Nebraska friend. Your kids are darling and I'm glad to see all is going well. I just barely started my blog and it is addicting. Hopefully we can keep in touch this way.

You know, I bet Jonah secretly has flash backs to that time when he was like only 6 or so months old and you and him were in Louisville for my graduation and Memorial day. Remember that year Michael helped out Jeff by dressing up as the Coney dog at the Lyndon Sonic. Mom has a picture somewhere of Michael holding Jonah while he was in the costume. Must be some subconscious thing. THat our your kid really is that obsessed with hotdogs. :)
