Nothing Says Fall Like a Lemonade Stand

All summer long, Jonah has been wanting to have a lemonade stand because he says, "It is a good way to make money." We just kept distracting him, telling him it wasn't a good time, etc. Our hearts were softened, however, when we found him in the front lawn one afternoon, playing a toy xylophone and dancing around for tips (he didn't understand why nobody had stopped). A few days after the street musician incident, it was an unseasonably warm day and the lemonade stand idea surfaced again. This time I thought, what the heck. It will be fun...and it was!

After whipping up a pitcher of Country-time and taking the table outside, we were ready for business. Of course, I was continually prepping him for the very likely possibility that we wouldn't get any customers at all. Jonah's response: "No, Mom, Curious George did this and he made lots of money!" (Thanks a lot, PBS!)

Thankfully, as fate would have it, just as we were getting started my friend, Priscilla stopped by to drop something off for Young Women's that night. A customer!! You can imagine Jonah's delight. Priscilla asked him how much, and he brought her a piece of paper on which he had written, "56.5" When she commented that $56.50 was a little pricey for lemonade, he set her straight, "No, it's $5.65." Well then, that's a steal! He ended up happily settling for 25 cents plus another quarter for a tip.
Open for Business

The extent of our profits

After that, business was pretty slow. I bought a cup, Micah came home and bought one, and Kate (and her doll) partook of several freebies.

Kate's doll liked the lemonade a lot...especially when Kate started using it as a hair styling aide!

I think Kate had to pee like 10 times after drinking all that lemonade!
A happy customer
Lincoln is still considering the wisdom of this business venture...
When it was all said and done, we were left with some spare change, a little bit of lemonade (the kids drank most of it during the sale), and a really great memory. Thanks for the inspiration, Curoius George!

Hey, you should tell Jonah that his price is still cheaper than what you'd find at some place for Lemonade! He'd make a bundle here!
